Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club soccer update

U15 Boys

The boys U-15 Chestnut Hill Blue Lightning notched a solid win over the Springfield Predators on Sunday.  The Blue Lightning offense dominated the game with a pair of goals each by Evan Miller in the first half and Cole McCourt in the second.  Ty Martin, Mike Pinover and Ben Brewer added goals to finish the scoring.  Ball control and passing accounted for the lopsided 7-1 score with Ibrahim Kamara, Zack Mamrol, Ben York and Matt O’Toole leading a defense that blunted Springfield’s attack.  The few chances the opposing team took were easily stopped by Chestnut Hill goalie Kevin Corelli, who only allowed a score on a penalty kick.  The win puts the Blue Lightning’s mid-season record at 3-2.

U14 Girls

Displaying hearts of lions, the U14 girls were very unlucky to only tie with the Ukranian team by a 2-2 score.  The girls opened the score when Sarah Thoms split the defense with a through pass to Kelsey Chapman who finished well.

A quick free kick from Resyna Hughes played Kelsey Chapman through again, and once again she finished well for a 2-0 CHYSC lead. Eve Maxson played a good cross that Julia Binswanger met well and turned back to Sarah Thomas who just missed.  In mid field Pheobe Ingersoll and Tasmin Lamb dominated in the first half.  Allie Clark made a couple of good saves to keep the 2-0 advantage.  CHYSC came out flat in the second half, and soon found the game tied.  However from that point dominated the game and saw multiple chances missed from Emma Ebert, Kelsey Chapman and a tremendous free kick from Tasmin Lamb.  Special mention to Resyna Hughes who was dominant in defence, and Angela Cascio, Kate Blake, Erica Schneer, Toni Hall and Gabi Schneer who never took a step backwards against a very rugged team.

U13 Boys

The U13 Boys A team won an exciting hard fought game by the score of 3-1 on Saturday at Montgomeryville.  Chestnut Hill played the first half of the game with only eight players against Montgomery’s eleven, finishing the first half with the score tied at one.

Harrison Tracy booted in the first goal after Peter Ferraro pressured Montgomeryville’s strong keeper.  Our defense of Jaime MacEachern, Chuck Lazarus, Ethan Rabinowitz, Bradford Jones and Peter Anthony in goal managed to keep Montgomeryville at bay.  Early in the second half, five reinforcements arrived from a Friends Schools League soccer tournament.  The team settled down, and Jack Martin and Philip Kelly each scored a goal to earn the win.

U11 Boys

The Chestnut Hill Lightning U11 Boys soccer team took second place in the Glenside Hunter Tournament over the Columbus Day weekend.  The U11 team opened with a win against Cheltenham 2-1 in the first game, as Jason Pixley scored on a rebound after Isaac Bushnell kicked a shot on goal.

A second score was made by Ben Caraballo on a pass from Bushnell. There were lots of Lightning attacks and pressure on the Cheltenham team where our players dominated the game. Adison Cripe made a great header during the game.  In the second game against Hunter, Josiah Harmar made an unassisted goal during the second half, but Hunter came back in the last five minutes to tie at 1-1. Great goal tending saves were made by Aidan Porges and Anand Butler in the net.

On Sunday, the U11 Boys played Upper Dublin team twice. Aidan Porges did a fine job defending the goal for both games. In the first game, the Lightning shut out Upper Dublin 3-0. Benjamin Szuhaj got the first goal with an assist by Ben Caraballo in the first half. In the second half, Myles Wyche got control of the ball in Lightning’s half and had a challenged run up to the right side of the opposing goal.

He passed it off to the far left side of the goal where Justin Williams came careening in to make the second goal. Jesse Overholser, Josiah Harmer, Matt O’Connor, Charlie Lee, Ben Skinner, Jason Pixley and Satya Butler as Stopper played great defense against the Upper Dublin team. Winning awarded Lightning a chance for the championship game against Upper Dublin.

The championship game took place on a full sized field. At five minutes into the game, Benjamin Szuhaj made a pass to Justin Williams who made a great run to score on the left side of the net for Lightning’s only goal of the game. At the end of the first half, Lightning was leading 1-0. In the second half, an Upper Dublin pressured run at the goalie resulted in a goal after Lightning goalie, Aidan Porges, captured the ball but was knocked to the ground by an Upper Dublin player. No interference call was made by the referee. With four minutes left to play, a long high shot into the upper right corner of the net by Upper Dublin resulted in a final score of 2-1, Upper Dublin.

U11 Girls

The Chestnut Hill U-11 Girls Travel team added another win to their record this weekend, the beating Montgomeryville Thunder 2-1.  Both goals were scored by Greta Meyer.  The first was an amazing shot from the right corner and the second was with an assist from Riley Brummet.  Meghan Tanel and Sophia Linguitti both had a great game, with several incredible break aways by Sophia.

In goal, Grayson Melby had four saves in the first half, followed by several strong saves by Schuyler Alig in the second half.  Schuyler, showing her ability to play well in goal and on the field, also had several key plays in midfield in the first half.  Tori Clarke and Caroline Jones once again controlled the backfield, keeping the Montgomeryville team away.

U10 Boys

The U10 Boys B Team Hammers won a pair of games over the weekend by convincing margins to improve their record to 4-3.  On Saturday, the Hammers defeated Yardley Makefield by a score of 5-2.

Christopher Dalglish led the scoring with a hat trick and Malcolm Glendinning and Jack Lamb added a goal apiece.  On Sunday, Chestnut Hill thoroughly dominated the Valley AA Tigers by a 6-1 score.

Dalglish once again chipped in with three goals and Glendenning added a pair of goals, with Jordan Shepherd Baker scoring as well.  Once again, Steven Hamel was strong in goal and the team benefited from solid defense from a wide assortment of players.

U9 Girls

A great showing was made by the U9 girls team as they got their feet wet in their first tournament at Hunter Soccer Club last weekend. They got off to a slow start with a loss to division powerhouse Whitpain Wave, but they bounced back impressively in a 2-1 win against the Towamencin Tornados, with perfect goaltending by Grace Eberwine.

The Lightning drew first blood with a goal by Caroline Caraballo, followed in the second half with an exciting run and goal scored by Rose Bradmiller-Feld. Sophie Smith was everywhere at midfield, as was stopper Jayne Pardys, distributing the ball forward with dynamic drive. Apollonia Hopper and Sierra Daisey were an impenetrable defensive force in holding on to the victory.

In a close game on Sunday morning, the girls lost 4-3 to the Huntingdon Valley Diamonds, giving up goals early then battling back impressively to dominate the whole second half, as the defensive team of Olivia Taylor and Marley Napier-Smith, and the lightning fast reflexes of goalie Lilly Dupuis frustrated the Diamonds again and again. The midfield team of Smith and Lucy Corlett relentlessly drove the ball toward their net, with goals by Morgan Fitton-Zellers and Caraballo bringing the U9s in to an energetic finish for their first tournament.
