Police, Firefighters, Postal Workers Picnic set for July 30 It’s the middle of summer and the Chestnut Hill Community Association is once again holding its annual celebration and picnic honoring police officers, firefighters, and postal workers. The festivities take place on Wednesday, July 30, starting at 6 p.m. at Pastorius Park. Police, firefighters, postal workers, and their immediate family members — as well as all children under eight years old — will be treated to free food and refreshments followed by a concert in the park at 7:30 p.m. by Ed Wise and His New Orleans Jazz Band, an “authentic New Orleans jazz band.” The charge for others is $7.50 per person. This is the 10th consecutive year the CHCA has sponsored the picnic and concert in honor of the public servants. “We are especially indebted to these workers serving our community,” CHCA Social Division Vice President Jane Piotrowski said. “It’s a great time for the community to once again come out and show their support for all these hard-working people.” Piotrowski has been working with Pat Moran, Wendy Williams, Peggy Miller, Peggy Hendrie, Kate O’Neil, Tony Crist, Dina Hitchcock, Elaine Aiello, Ann Marie Arment, Dick Martin and Carol Cope, among others. This year, Drake’s Gourmet Food and Catering along with Ann McNally, Tom Ivory, and The Chestnut Hill Community Association are assisting the event by coordinating their talents to provide food and beverages for the picnic. The dinner will feature traditional picnic fare. “Each year this picnic allows Chestnut Hill to show its appreciation for everything these people do, both behind the scenes and in the everyday performance of their duties,” Piotrowski added. “It’s also a great opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors and other members of the Chestnut Hill community.” Piotrowski saidthat reservations should be made by calling the CHCA office (215-248-8810) or completing the coupon published on this page of the Local. Payment may be made at the picnic, but reservations are encouraged. “Come on out and thank them,” Piotrowski concluded. “It promises to be a fun evening with great food and music.”
