Local NewsLocal policies put on hold pending review An ad hoc committee created by the Chestnut Hill Community Association in September to study the Local’s cash flow, attempted last week to revise the paper’s policies but did so, according to Local staffers, without seeking the Local’s input. The Chestnut Hill Community Association owns the paper. Park police unit to be shut down It was not really an announcement as much as a whisper. The city let it be known that by the end of the year the 92nd precinct, the only district dedicated to Fairmount Park, will close and the personnel will be reassigned to the precincts that border the park system.
Holiday House Tour planning begins early
Planning for this year’s Holiday House Tour (Dec. 6) sponsored by the Chestnut Hill Community Association is extensive, and, surprisingly, the process began in early June. The volunteer committee handles a variety of responsibilities, and sponsors, Citibank and Myers Constructs Inc., provide needed financial support. Much of the management of the project and many minute details are left to Noreen Spota, administrative coordinator for the community association, and Philip LeCalsey, community manager.
Annual Light Up A Life celebration in Chestnut Hill
Penn Wissahickon Hospice will present its annual Light Up A Life celebration in Chestnut Hill on Sunday, Dec. 7. The traditional holiday event will begin at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Hill Hospital. More than 100 people are expected to attend the gathering, which features speakers, music, refreshments, and the illuminating of the Light Up A Life tree. This evergreen is adorned with thousands of lights, each one dedicated in someone’s honor or memory and representing a contribution to Penn Wissahickon Hospice’s Needy Patient Fund. The Penn Wissahickon Hospice hopes to raise $40,000 for the fund through Light Up A Life this year. Money comes from individual contributions and light dedications, the sale of advertisements in the event program books, and sponsorships. This year’s Light Up a Life is sponsored through the generous donation of the Green Tree Community Health Foundation and through other charitable giving by Chestnut Hill Hospital, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Main Line Medical Supplies and Penn Home Care and Hospice Services.
