In the classic film Groundhog Day, weatherman Phil Connors — played by Bill Murray — wakes up every morning at 6 a.m. to discover that it is still Feb. 2, Groundhog Day. As Murray is forced to relive Feb. 2 every day, he sinks further and further into depression and depravity. He drinks, fights, steals and frequently tries to kill himself. In one scene he kidnaps Punxsutawney Phil (the groundhog) and, with the local police in hot pursuit, drives off a cliff. The car, with Murray and groundhog inside, explodes in a terrific ball of steel and fire. (Did I mention this is a comedy?)
I learned of Pete’s “trial” as many of you did, soon after, as the closed executive session was as watertight as anything sailed on by DiCaprio and Winslet, (or Clifton Webb for us old folks). But in how much detail can it be discussed, without violating those pesky CHCA bylaws? If only we all adhered to them as closely as the board does, all could be revealed. To send a “full disclosure” piece in, and then have it edited by Pete, in adherence to the same bylaws that were disregarded by the board before, during, and after his interrogation is too surreal for me, and that’s saying something. I will instead step back, and try, once again, to reveal the Matrix. Commentary: A eulogy for the Conshohocken Recorder It was hard to stand by while an old friend died, but they said the damage was irreparable. One hundred and forty years is a good haul by any standard (almost twice the average American life expectancy), so shouldn’t we be glad it lasted as long as it did? Offseason blues - but not for long My coworker, Dan, has told me that after 12 years, I’m finally a real Eagles fan. Why? It’s because of this sentiment: Right now the Eagles suck. There is still a bit left in me that’s looking forward to the 2009 season, with or without Reid and McNabb, who are together in sickness and health. So, there you are. |
