The Conductors Guild recently selected Jonathan Sternberg for its Lifetime Service Award in recognition of long-standing service to the art and profession of conducting.

The Conductors Guild, with a membership of over 1,850 members representing all 50 states and more than 30 other countries, is the only music service organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art of conducting and to serving the artistic and professional needs of conductors.

Sternberg, who has conducted orchestras all over the world and has impacted the lives of students from many countries, has provided the profession with numerous corrected editions of standard orchestral literature, embodying insights from a life spent in close examination of this music.

He has also served the Conductors Guild for many years as editor-at-large and  has written articles on various topics for the Guild’s publication Podium Notes. In grateful appreciation for this longtime service, the Conductors Guild Lifetime Service Award includes a lifetime membership in the Guild for Sternberg.

HILL SINGER-SONGWRITER: Three of the Philadelphia area’s most compelling female singer-songwriters — Chestnut Hill resident Karen Gross (seen here), Gillian Grassie and Tania Alexandra — will take the stage for the concert Women in Love: Women Songwriters Sing About Love. WALKIN’ ON HILL: Original members of Beats Walkin’, the area’s premier Texas Swing Band, will reunite for one night only at the Mermaid Inn, 7673 Winston Rd., on Friday, Feb. 13.
