Chestnut Hill College Art History Professor to Discuss Artwork of Cecilia Beaux  2 p.m. at The Woodmere Art Museum, 9201 Germantown Ave. Suzanne Conway, M.A., associate professor of art history at Chestnut Hill College will speak on the topic of “Cecilia Beaux in France.” Conway’s lecture will discuss Beaux’s period of study in Paris, particularly in the context of the type of the painting ateliers that were open to women students and the kinds of women painters who were attracted to them.  The lecture will also consider the “unstructured” summer months Beaux spent in Brittany as part of the American art enclave at Concarneau that were important for her development as a painter.

Chestnut Hill College to Host 2009 PHENND Conference The PHENND (Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development) Conference is a consortium of 36 colleges and universities in the greater Philadelphia area that works to strengthen Philadelphia’s service and service learning communities. The keynote speaker for the conference will be Karen Gross, president of Southern Vermont College. The conference is open to the public. Chestnut Hill Hospital is holding Golden Yoga Classes every Friday 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Lea Auditorium at the Chestnut Hill Hospital, 8835 Germantown Ave. Golden Yoga is Classical Yoga, adapted by the SKY Foundation, to accommodate those who have difficulty getting up and down from the floor. Church of the Annunciation is forming an Early Childhood Music class for children ages four and five, which will begin on Thursday Sept. 18. Morris Arboretum Wellness Walks 10:30 a.m. at Morris Arboretum, 100 Northwestern Ave. every Saturday Nov. 1 through March 28. Walkers meet at the Visitors Center wearing comfortable clothing and shoes, ready to walk two-mile-long loops on the paved paths.  Guides point out some of the Arboretum’s specimen trees and other distinctive features along the way.
