U11’s Blue Lightning ends season in second

The Blue Lightning U11 girls travel team had a battle on their hands last Sunday as it played an A.C. United team eager to avenge a 1-0 loss from earlier in the season.

The first half saw much back and forth play as the stopper/sweeper team of Sophie Smith and Serena Lanfranco shut down every scoring opportunity that United could conjure.

Midfielders Alex Kuper and Maddie Stahlecker consistently drove the ball down the sides to provide opportunities to the waiting strikers. After a powerful sequence, bringing the ball into position by striker Annabel Grove and midfielder Samantha Bruttomesso-Clarke, striker Lilly Dupuis and center midfielder Lila Sternberg-Sher bounced the ball between them, to ultimately provide a clean shot for Sternberg-Sher, who put it in with confidence.  The half ended with this slim lead, goalie Jayne Pardys having logged yet another scoreless half.

Chestnut Hill College joined fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members, Concordia College, Philadelphia University, and the University of the Sciences on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association DII East Regional Team Rankings. The Griffins ranked ninth in the region on the Nov. 6 poll. They are 1-2 this season following a fall schedule that consisted of matches against Millersville University, Bloomsburg University, and West Chester University.

GFS baseball star signs with Oregon
After signing a Letter of Intent (left-handed, naturally) for the University of Oregon, Jesse Biddle poses in Oregon gear with Germantown Friends Upper School principal Rita Goldman; Conor, Jesse, Marion and David Biddle and GFS varsity baseball coach, Bob Bergholtz.

Germantown Friends School senior Jesse Biddle of Mt. Airy signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 12 to play baseball at the University of Oregon, a Division I school. The ceremony took place at the Friends Free Library on the GFS campus, where enthusiastic cheers from coaches, family and friends were allowed to erupt in the normally quiet space.
