![]() Willow Grove construction scheduled into September
The Philadelphia Water Department is currently working on replacing water main pipes at East Willow Grove Avenue in Chestnut Hill. Water department spokesman John DiGiulio said the work is routine pipe maintenance. “Every so often water and sewer lines outlive their life span and that’s what we are doing there,” DiGiulio said. The construction is taking place from Germantown Avenue to Winston Street along Willow Grove Avenue According to a letter sent out by the Water department, a private contractor, Petrongolo Contractors, Inc. will work block by block until the work is completed. Along with replacing water and sewer pipes, the contractor will be replacing the existing water pipe between the new water main and the “curb valve box” and repaving pipe trench excavations, according to the letter. Work started on March 23, and is expected to be complete by September 24. Street closures are to be expected during work hours, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., when necessary, according to the letter. Also being worked on is the relocation of fire hydrants within the area, located in the middle of a block will be moved to an intersection, according to the letter, for better accessibility.
