![]() Springside hoopsters uproot Little Flower
In the Lou Cappiella Summer Basketball League in Roxborough, Springside School opened its warm-weather season last Tuesday evening with a 38-8 victory over Little Flower High School. Rising junior Sydni Epps rang up 13 points on the night to lead the Lions, who got eight points apiece from sophomore Gianna Pownall and junior Michelle Boggs. Boggs, a solid 6’1” forward, is one of three hoopsters transferring into Springside from Cardinal Dougherty High School, which saw its final graduating class depart on June 8. The other two former Cardinals are senior forward Brenna Coll and junior swing player Elana Roadcloud. Coll is also a first team All-Catholic soccer goalie. Coll and Roadcloud did not play last Tuesday, but another new Springsider did. Julia Schumacher, a 5’2” point guard, comes to the Lions from Colonial Middle School and played for the successful CYO team at St. Philip Neri in Lafayette Hill. She contributed three points in the Little Flower game, and Springside received two points apiece from juniors Alexis Giovinazzo and Ashlee Hale and sophomore Alyssa Isackman. Mount off and rolling in summer hoops Summer basketball league action for the Mount St. Joseph Academy varsity got underway on the first of the month, and on Monday, June 7 the hoopsters ran their record to 3-0. The MSJ varsity competes in the Hatboro Horsham league, while JV players and incoming freshmen are participating in the Lou Cappiella League in Roxborough, which is administered by Springside coach Brian Morris. |
