Charles A. Schauffler, bond trader
Mr. Schauffler had been employed by the firm of J.F. Hartfield of Jersey City, N.J., when he retired in1997. Earlier he worked for Dolphin and Bradbury of Philadelphia.
He began his long career as a trader and underwriter in New York with Hallgarten and Co. and later helped to establish a municipal bond department at the firm then known as Cogan, Berlind, Weill and Leavitt.
He also had worked at Schaffer Necker of Philadelphia, where his father, Charles A. Schauffler, was a founding partner.
Raised in Mt. Airy, Mr. Schauffler graduated from the William Penn Charter School, where he excelled as an athlete, especially in basketball where he set a school scoring record.
He was offered a basketball scholarship by the University of Maryland and played center and forward for the university during his freshman and sophomore years. After graduation, he served for two years in the Army at Ft. Knox, Ky.
Mr. Schauffler and his wife, the former Ursula Zimmerman, had been residents of Mt. Airy for 25 years.
He was a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he played golf and tennis until a severe ankle injury in 1993 limited his activities, and the Philadelphia Aviation Country Club. He was also an avid sailor.
A memorial service was held Aug. 11 at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Chestnut Hill. Interment will be in Heidelberg, Germany.

Maria Stella Pascuzzi, age 79, on August 9, 2010 of Chestnut Hill. Wife of the late Giovanni. Mother of Rose, John, Jr. (Christine), Josephine (Bill). Grandmother of Natalie, Angelina, Nicholas, Paige, Jessica. Also survived by one brother and two sisters. Funeral Mass was held Friday August 13th at Our Mother of Consolation Church. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
