![]() Jane C. Johnson, community volunteer Jane Carver Johnson, 91, of Flourtown, a community volunteer, died Aug. 28 of complications of heart disease at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was a founding member of the Springfield Historical Society and served on its advisory board until her death. She also had twice served as president of the Flourtown Chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and served on the GFWC’s Montgomery County board. A Flourtown resident for 57 years, she served on the township’s Boulevard of Trees Committee from 1975 to 1976 to raise funds to plant flowering trees along Bethlehem Pike. She also had worked for several years during the 1980s at the Hilltop Shop, a greeting card and gift shop in Chestnut Hill. Born Jane Carver Shorday in Wyncote, Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Cheltenham High School. During World War II, she was a secretary to the headmaster of Friends Select School. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, and served on its altar guild and volunteered in the church office and in many church activities. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Jane Johnson, also of Flourtown. Mrs. Johnson’s husband of 48 years, Curtis Robert Johnson, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, Bethlehem Pike and Camp Hill Road, Fort Washington. – WF
