Chestnut Hill recognized for its Green

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society named Chestnut Hill a winner of The Community Greening Award.  This award celebrates public green spaces in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, and is a joint project of PHS and “Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful,” a non-profit organization that promotes and protects Pennsylvania’s natural and community environments.  It recognizes th- ose who have made a difference by planting and maintaining quality green spaces that are open to the public.

Chestnut Hill was selected for this award in recognition of the lovely hanging baskets, barrels, window boxes and pocket parks that add so much to the beauty of our neighborhood. Emily Daeschler and Dottie S- heffield, president and vice president respectively of the Chestnut Hill Garden District Fund, give much of the credit for the award to Bob Markowski who is meticulous in caring for all the plantings along Germantown Avenue. The fund also recognized the Random Garden Club and the Chestnut Hill Business Improvement District, which contribute time and money to the streetscape.
