Springfield Township held its annual  “No Stigma, No Shame” day on April 20 to support public awareness of substance use disorder and mental health challenges. Educational programming to further promote this message will be held at the middle and high schools throughout the month, and the Springfield Township Police Department will be accepting unwanted and expired prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1510 Papermill Road on April 27.

The Shade Tree Commission will be conducting a tree giveaway as part of Saturday’s Arbor Day celebration. Residents can win one of the 30 available trees by providing their name, address and contact information to the township. Additionally, a tree will be planted to honor past Commissioner Baird Standish for his many years of service to the township.

Throughout April, Springfield Township recycled 134.9 tons of material with a household participation rate of 72.9%. The net cost for the month was $ 22,998.04.

Leaf compost is now available at the township’s distribution site at West Wissahickon Avenue. Leaf compost can be used to enrich and retain moisture in soil, and can also stimulate earthworms and other helpful organisms.
