A Phillie and a Fiesta

It's been a rough news year and now this October surprise, on the front page of the Local: Fiesta Pizza is closing after more than 40 years in business. 

Years ago, I was interviewing Jimmy Rollins, the Phillies shortstop, for a Sports Illustrated piece when he was in Miami for a series. He was dating Johari Smith at the time, then an athletic trainer at Springside School and now his wife. I asked Jimmy where he liked to eat in Chestnut Hill. "Fiesta," he said. He liked Pete's pizza, and he liked Pete's place. Good call, Jimmy!  I would add breakfast - Fiesta served a nice, …

Years ago, I was interviewing Jimmy Rollins, the Phillies shortstop, for a Sports Illustrated piece when he was in Miami for a series. He was dating Johari Smith at the time, then an athletic trainer at Springside School and now his wife. I asked Jimmy where he liked to eat in Chestnut Hill. "Fiesta," he said. He liked Pete's pizza, and he liked Pete's place. Good call, Jimmy!  I would add breakfast - Fiesta served a nice, no-fuss breakfast, and that's hard to find these days.

 Thanks for the great run, Pete Thomas and crew. You were a staple. The Avenue will not be the same without you.
