I am pleased to hear that the 9th Ward Republican leader shares my distaste for those who steal political lawn signs ("From accusations to action: The 9th Ward GOP responds," Local, Sept. 26).
I agree wholeheartedly that free speech and open discussion are vital to our democracy. Lawn signs are one way of expressing support for a candidate or cause, and it is unfortunate that some person or persons decided to swing through our ward in the darkness of night and remove lawn signs supporting our Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

I agree wholeheartedly that free speech and open discussion are vital to our democracy. Lawn signs are one way of expressing support for a candidate or cause, and it is unfortunate that some person or persons decided to swing through our ward in the darkness of night and remove lawn signs supporting our Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
I continue to believe that MAGA Republicans were the most likely culprits, but I recognize that there are many registered Republicans in our area who do not support the direction their party has taken in recent years.
I can only hope that our 9th Ward Republicans will join Republicans like former Rep. Liz Cheney, former Vice President Mike Pence, and dozens of former Trump administration Cabinet members or senior former GOP officials in opposing Donald Trump's election to our nation's highest office.
As former Vice President Dick Cheney has said, "There has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump." I wholeheartedly agree.
