More than 100 members of the Chestnut Hill Hospital nursing staff recently gathered at the Flourtown Country Club to celebrate Nurses Week. In addition to the awards and recognition the staff received to honor the care provide to the community the nurses participated in a 50/50 to raise money for The Elissa Messori Jacobsen Nursing Awards Fund. A check for $358 was presented to Divo Messori for the fund that provides scholarships for continuing education to hospital nurses.
In 2001, The Elissa Messori Jacobsen Nursing Awards Fund was established by Dr. and Mrs. Divo Messori to celebrate the life of their daughter Lisa. A dedicated and passionate nurse at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Lisa lost her battle against breast cancer. The fund benefits Chestnut Hill Hospital nurses with their continuing nursing education. Full-time, part-time nursing staff, with a minimum of one year of nursing experience at Chestnut Hill Hospital are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
Since the first awards in 2002, more than 50 nurses enrolled in advanced training clinical programs have received approximately $150,000 in grant support from the Messori family, their friends, Chestnut Hill Hospital physicians, nurses and employees who have contributed to the Fund, as well as patients and family members touched by the skill and compassion of the Hospital’s nursing staff.
