The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period from May 16 to June 6. 

Chestnut Hill

May 16 Theft. A complainant reported having a check she mailed in the mailbox at the corner of Germantown Avenue and Gravers Lane washed by a thief who tried to turn it into two separate checks.

May 23 Pocket picking. A complainant reported being picked on the 8200 block of Germantown Avenue. Her credit card and driver’s license were stolen. The credit card was later used for a $1,600 purchase at Staples.

May 24 Theft from motor vehicle. Three complainants reported each of their cars’ windows being smashed while parked near the Wissahickon Trail entrance near Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive. Items, including a bookbag, a purse and cash, were stolen. 

May 26 Theft. A complainant reported her wallet being stolen by a man while shopping inside the Fresh market, located on the 8200 block of Germantown Avenue. The offender then fled southbound on Germantown Avenue in a car.

May 26 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant who was parked near the Wissahickon Trail entrance near Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive had her back window shattered and her purse stolen from her vehicle.

May 26 Theft. The manager of the CVS located on the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue reported multiple offenders leaving the store with merchandise without having paid for it. Shampoos and other hair care products were taken.

May 27 Theft. An offender stole beer from the Acme on the 7700 block of Crittenden Street. When a witness tried to stop him he brandished a knife and proceeded to walk out of the store.

May 29 Theft. The manager of the Acme at 7700 Crittenden Street reported an offender stealing batteries from the store and fleeing. 

May 29 Theft. An offender stole condoms, Lotrimin Ultra and a 5-Hour Energy from the Acme at 7700 Crittenden Street while the cashier was distracted and fled.  

May 29 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant who was parked near the Wissahickon Trail entrance near Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive had her car window shattered and items including airpods, an iphone and her wallet stolen from her vehicle.

May 29 Pocket picking. An offender stole the complainant’s wallet out of her purse while she was shopping at a deli/grocery store on the 8400 block of Germantown Avenue. 

May 29 A complainant reported meeting a stranger he met on OfferUp.com to sell him an iPhone 13. The complainant handed the offender the phone who then fled without paying.

June 1 Theft, vandalism. Complainant left car parked at 60 Valley Green Road overnight. An unknown offender broke the passenger side window and stole a Nike book bag containing a Macbook Pro and a wallet with ID and multiple credit cards. Offender charged $2,450 and $3,470 to the Saks 5th Avenue card and another $400 to a Sunoco. 

June 3 Theft. Offender made off with $156. 94 worth of booze from the wine and spirits store in the 8700 block of Germantown Avenue. 

June 4 Carjacking. Complainant states that four thin Black teenage males waiting outside her house at 80 21 Winston Road jumped out of a blue Mazda SUV and pointed a gun at her and took her silver Subaru Impreza. 

Mt. Airy

April 14 Theft. Complainant states that a pair of $740 shoes from Neiman Marcus were delivered to her house in the 600 block of  West  Johnson Street but she never received them. 

May 10 Burglary. A complainant returned home to her residence on the unit block of West Allens Lane to find evidence of forced entry and items including books, clothes, DVDs and personal documents missing. 

May 20 Theft. An offender broke the lock on a construction gate on the 200 block of Johnson Street and stole lumber. 

May 21 Robbery. An offender stole items from the Acme in the 7700 block of Crittenden Street while pulling a knife on a store employee.

May 22 Theft of motor vehicle parts. A complainant had his catalytic converter stolen from his car parked outside his house on the 6600 block of Ardleigh Street.

May 23 Aggravated assault. A complainant who got in an argument with an offender on the 6400 block of Greene Street was punched in the face, choked and had a gun held to her head before losing consciousness. 

May 25 Aggravated assault. A complainant told police that her husband, who suffers from mental illness, was released from Friends Hospital and became physical with her on the 6600 block of Lincoln Drive. He grabbed her arm and tried to choke her. 

May 26 Theft. A complainant stated that U-Haul took the vehicle she rented from her property, located on the 700 block of Vernon Road, with items inside of it despite having extended the rental contract for the vehicle.

May 26 Motor vehicle theft. A complainant reported their car being stolen from the 6700 block of Musgrave Street.

May 26 Aggravated Assault and Robbery. Complainant states that as he was leaving his house at 7100 Stenton Ave. he was approached from behind by a Black male who took out a gun and struck him with it, telling him not to look or he would kill him. The thief made off with $420 in cash, a debit card and house keys. 

May 28 Robbery. A complainant who lives in the 7100 block of Germantown Avenue asked a man who was smoking a cigar in the back alley of his house to vacate his property. When he wouldn’t do so, the complainant started taking pictures of him with his phone. The offender then proceeded to steal the phone and flee.

May 29 Theft. Police responded to a theft in progress in the 200 block of East Johnson Street, where four thieves were loading up a U-Haul with construction materials. Police detained two of the four offenders and later apprehended a third.

May 31 Aggravated Assault. Offender came into Young’s Deli in the 7400 block of Stenton Ave. and bought an alcoholic beverage and began to drink it. When complainant told him he couldn’t drink in the store, the offender became irate, yelling “You haven’t been in my body” and proceeded to strike him in the face with a glass bottle, cutting his jaw. The offender fled on foot and later was arrested. 

May 31 Theft. Complainant states that her bicycle was stolen off her porch in the unit block of East Gowen Avenue. 

June 1 Aggravated Assault. Complainant in the 300 block of East Upsal Street got a call at 9:15 p.m. to come outside. She was then jumped by offenders, one who pointed a gun and said “I’ll do it” and then broke the windows of her car and took her phone and $1,500 cash. The victim’s girlfriend was present, and jumped in to stab one of the offenders, who was transported to the hospital. 

June 1. Auto Theft. Complainant left his Chevy Tahoe running while he went into Stenton Beer and Soda in the 7000 block of Stenton Ave. and when he came back out it was gone. 

June 2 Auto theft. Complainant parked car in garage in the unit block of West Hortter Street overnight. The car was gone in the morning and there was glass on the ground. 

June 3 Aggravated Assault. Complainant states that her ex-boyfriend tried to lock her out of her apartment in the 600 block of West Sedgwick Street, breaking her door in the process. He then punched her in the face and threw a piece of wood with nails in it at her. 

June 5 Aggravated Assault. Complainant states she got into an argument with a man in the 1000 block of Kitchens Lane just before 6 p.m, who then punched her in the face and strangled her with his hands. He was arrested.
