Crime Report: $15,000 ring taken from Avenue shop

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13. Some reports are prior to the date range and were reported after the fact.

Dec. 6 Domestic assault on the 200 block of W. Chestnut Hill Ave. A woman went to check on her daughter and was greeted at the door by her daughter’s grandfather. The two got into a physical altercation and the woman told police the man punched her in the head.

Dec. 9 Theft from auto on the 9100 block of Crefeld St. A man told police security camera footage showed someone entered his unlocked vehicle and took $5 from the center console.

Dec 9 Theft from vehicle on the 8800 block of Germantown Ave. Vehicle was left in parking lot, unlocked. When owner returned, she found her vehicle’s doors left open. $5 in loose change was taken.

Dec. 10 Theft from vehicle on the 8800 block of Germantown Ave. A man told police he parked his car and returned to find his doors left open and his wallet taken. Thieves had withdrawn $500 from his PNC bank account and purchased $200 worth of SEPTA cards.

Dec 11 Retail Theft on 8600 block of Germantown Ave. A store clerk was showing two men jewelry. One of the men snatched a ring worth $15,000 and both fled the store. Police nearby chased the men but were left behind when they both jumped over a fence heading east towards Evergreen Avenue and Anderson Street. 

Mt. Airy

Dec 7 Burglary/forced entry at Dunkin Donuts, 8113 Germantown Ave. Store manager told police that someone smashed the glass on the front door during the night, entered the store and checked the safe. No money is ever kept on site. Damage to the glass was estimated at about $500. Nothing was taken.

Dec. 8 Theft on 200 block of E. Gowen Ave. A woman told police that someone took a number of packages from her front porch and loaded them into a van. She had video footage captured by her security doorbell camera. Taken was approximately $215 worth of various goods.

Dec. 9 Retail theft on the 7000 block of Germantown Avenue. Store employees stopped a young man who hid several items in a backpack and passed all points of sale without paying. He was taken by police and processed.

Dec. 13 Theft from vehicle at Parkline Drive and W. Hortter Street. A woman told police she parked at the location and went for a hike in the Wissahickon. She returned to discover her rear passenger-side window broken and her purse containing wallet, credit cards and house keys missing.
