Crime Report: 7 catalytic converters taken in Mt. Airy

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy from Jan 11 through Jan. 17

Mt. Airy --  Seven catalytic converters taken in Mt. Airy neighborhood. Seven Mt. Airy residents reported their catalytic converters taken between Jan 10 and 12. Often, according to police reports, the vehicle owners only discovered the theft when they tried to start their vehicles unsuccessfully. All of the vehicles were 10- to 15-year-old Honda and Toyota sedans. The thefts took place as follows: 1 on the 400 block of Hortter St., 1 on the 500 block of Hortter St. 1 on the 600 block of Carpenter Ln., 2 on the 700 block of Carpenter Ln., 1 on the 6800 block of Green St., and 1 on the 500 block of Westview Ave.

Chestnut Hill

Jan. 12 Theft on the 200 block of W. Evergreen Ave. A man told police he returned from spending the holiday at his parents’ home and found approximately $1,600 in camping gear missing from his apartment building garage. Taken were two cargo boxes, two camping coolers, plates, two propane tanks and four skewers.

Jan 13 Forced entry on 7700 block of Ardleigh Street. Police received a call that a man had broken into the rear of a property at the residence of a woman who had a restraining order against him. When police arrived the man was asleep on a first-floor couch and arrested at the scene.

Mt. Airy

Jan. 11 Vehicle taken at gunpoint on the 400 block of East Allens Lane. [See story, Page 1] A man told police he was parking his car when three men ran up to him. One pointed a gun at him and demanded the car keys. He gave the men his keys and they drove off.

Jan. 11 Theft from vehicle on the 6900 block of Wissahickon Ave. A woman told police someone entered her unlocked car and took $5 of loose change and a $15 makeup bag.

Jan. 11 Theft from vehicle on the 400 block of W. Sedgwick St. A man told police someone smashed his passenger side window and took an $8 container of CBD oil. Another part of the car was pried into and damaged.

Jan 12 Retail theft at Germantown Ave. and Sedgwick St. Police apprehended a suspect for taking approximately $100 worth of soap and other household products without paying.

Jan. 13 Theft from vehicle on the 200 block of West Upsal St. A man told police he found someone had broken his vehicle’s front window and taken spare change and two Bluetooth speakers worth approximately $500.

Jan. 13 Burglary, forced entry on 100 block of W. Durham Street. A woman told police she and her husband were on the 2nd floor of their home when they heard a loud bang. Her husband saw a man on the 1st floor when he went downstairs. The man fled with the woman’s purse. The woman’s wallet was later recovered when it was found on the 7000 block of Cherokee St. $100 in cash was taken.

Jan. 15 Aggravated assault with weapon. A woman told police she had a gathering with friends and family after which her brother’s friend returned and started a physical altercation. The friend hit the woman in the back of the head with a sharp object. The assailant was known by the woman and police are investigating further.
