Crime Report: Armed robberies in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy.

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy from Jan 18 through Jan. 24

Chestnut Hill

Jan 19 Vehicle stolen from 7600 block of Crittenden St. A red Ford Freestar minivan was stolen from the parking lot.

Jan 19 Theft from vehicle. 300 block of W. Springfield Ave. A woman told police that someone broke into her vehicle and took three pairs of high-end sunglasses worth a combined $575.

Jan 20 Theft from vehicle. Unit block of W. Willow Grove Ave. A man told police he found both of the vehicles in his driveway were broken into and ransacked. A $20 bag of coins was stolen from one of the vehicles. Nothing else was taken.

Jan. 20 Burglary. 400 block of W. Moreland. A woman told police that someone entered her art studio through a door that does not lock. Taken was $1,200 in cash and other items.

Jan. 21 Retail theft. 8200 block of Germantown Ave. A woman told police someone stole her wallet from purse while she was inside a local store. She discovered a $600 charge to one of her credit cards.

Jan. 21 Armed robbery, 100 block of E. Moreland Ave. A woman told police she was unloading laundry from her car when she was approached by two young men who pointed a gun at her and demanded her possessions. The men took her handbag with wallet, ID and money. All taken was worth $100.

Mt. Airy

Jan. 21  Two armed robberies. 300 block of E. Gorgas Lane. A man told police he was packing his car for a trip when two men approached. One pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet and phone. They took an iPhone 7 and the man’s wallet with ID, three credit cards, a passport card and $20 in cash. The phone was later recovered. Police say the same men approached a woman on the same block who was retrieving an EZ pass from her vehicle, pointed the gun at her and demanded money. They took her wallet containing $20 in cash plus credit cards and ID.

Jan. 22 Retail theft. 7200 block of Germantown Ave. A manager at the Wine and Spirits store said a man entered the store and took a bottle of Absolut vodka and Johnny Walker whiskey and fled without paying. The combined value of both bottles is $58.

Jan. 22 Retail Theft. 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A man entered a store and took seven bottles of Ensure without paying. Value of the Ensure is about $70.

Jan. 23 Theft from vehicle. 6500 block of Greene St. A man making deliveries on the block when someone took his phone and $125 in cash. The phone was recovered after someone found it and turned it in the 14th District Police.

Jan. 24  Theft from vehicle, 7200 block of Germantown Ave. A woman told police she parked at Wawa and left her car running and doors unlocked. When she returned she discovered someone had entered the vehicle and taken $20 in cash and a wallet containing ID, credit cards and social security card. She had left the items in the car’s center console.
