Crime Report: ATM bombed in Chestnut Hill, rape reported in Mt. Airy

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period between March 1 – March 7. Note that some crimes with earlier dates were reported during the current time frame. The date references the time the reported crime occurred.

Chestnut Hill

Mar. 2 Arson, retail theft on the 7700 block of Crittenden St. At 5:38 a.m., police responded to an alarm at the Wells Fargo bank at 7782 Crittenden St. where two men used explosives and other tools to break into an ATM machine. Security footage showed the men fled in a white box truck that was later recovered on the 700 block of W. Allens Lane where it was examined by detectives. 

Mar. 3 Aggravated assault at Chestnut Hill Hospital, 8835 Germantown Ave. A male patient with a Chester, PA address was being discharged when his wife showed up and started a physical confrontation with the patient’s girlfriend who was with him at the hospital. When security responded, the wife used pepper spray on security personnel.

Mt. Airy

Feb. 25 Theft on the 7000 Block of Chew Ave. A woman told police that packages delivered to her house according to email notifications were missing from her porch. Taken were a duffel bag and clothing worth approximately $54.

Feb. 27 Theft from vehicle on the 100 block of W. Allen’s Lane. A woman has security camera footage of a man taking the catalytic converter from her 2007 Toyota Prius. The footage shows the man was in a white Chrysler minivan. The part is worth $2,000.

Feb. 27 Theft from vehicle at Cliveden and Cherokee streets. A man parked his car at the intersection. When he returned, he discovered the catalytic converter of his 2007 Toyota Prius had been taken. Part is worth

Feb. 28 Theft on the 200 block of Sydney St. A man told police that he had security camera footage of a man coming onto his front porch, loading his porch furniture into a truck and leaving. Furniture was estimated to be worth $300.

Mar. 1 Burglary/Breaking and entering on the 500 block of Carpenter Lane. A woman found her front door window smashed in and that someone had rummaged through her drawers and closet. She couldn’t find anything taken. Damage to the door was said to be worth about $600.

Mar. 3 Rape, domestic on the 100 block of W. Sharpnack St. A woman told police an ex-boyfriend who still lives with her punched and then raped her in their home.
