Crime Report: May 15-May 23, 2022

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period from May 16 to May 23. (Some crimes that occurred on dates earlier than the current period may be included.)

Chestnut Hill

May 16 Theft. A complainant had $390 in his account with Fairview Nursing Home, located on the 100 block of Bethlehem Pike, but when he checked his balance it was gone. 

May 16 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant had items, including a laptop, wallet and headphones, stolen from her car while it was parked near the Wissahickon Trail entrance by Wissahickon Avenue and Kitchens Lane. There was no sign of forced entry and the car may have been unlocked.

May 17 Theft. A complainant reported having her wallet stolen out of her shopping cart while shopping at a corner store on the 8200 block of Germantown Avenue. Her credit card was later used at Wawa for $500 and Acme for $2,000. 

May 18 Burglary. A complainant reported jewelry having been stolen from her home on the 7800 block of Stenton Avenue. 

May 20 Robbery. While a complainant was retrieving cash from the Wells Fargo ATM on the 7700 block of Crittenden Street, a man walked up behind her, asked her a question, then snatched $50 and her debit card from her. A couple of men who witnessed the incident chased him down and retrieved her debit card from him. 

Mt. Airy

May 15 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant reported his vehicle had been ransacked during the night while it was parked on the 200 block of West Upsal Street. Multiple items were stolen, including cash, medication and a watch.

May 15 Motor vehicle theft. A complainant reported her car having gone missing from the 400 block of Slocum Street. 

May 16 Theft from motor vehicle. A complainant’s car window was smashed near the Wissahickon Trail entrance by Wissahickon Avenue and Kitchens Lane. An offender stole multiple items, including textbooks, a laptop, a wallet and tools. 

May 16 Theft. A complainant’s bicycle was stolen after it was left outside on the 7400 block of Sprague Street. 

May 16 Theft. A complainant forced open a gate to a construction site on the 200 block of W. Johnson Street and stole lumber.

May 17 Aggravated assault. A complainant reported having been pepper sprayed by her husband during an argument about infidelity on the corner of Vernon Road and Sprague Street. 

May 19 Theft. An offender stole a bag of miscellaneous merchandise from a grocery store located on the unit block of West Hortter Street. 

May 19 Motor vehicle theft. A complainant reported her car missing from the 6600 block of Chew Avenue. 

May 19 Theft. A complainant had his wallet stolen from him at a bar located on the 1300 block of East Johnson Street.

May 19 Theft of motor vehicle parts. A complainant reported the catalytic convertor having been stolen off her car, which was parked on the 6300 block of Carnation Street. 

May 20 Theft. A complainant’s boyfriend locked her out of her house and when he finally allowed her back in she noticed her gun, which she keeps between cushions on her couch, had been missing.
