Crime Report: Shot fired by man breaking into cars in Chestnut Hill

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the period between Feb. 22– Feb. 28

On Monday, Feb. 22, a man tells police he witnessed someone ransack his car, which was parked on the unit block of Woodale Ave. The man decided to follow the person when the person suddenly swung around and fired a single shot in his direction. The person fled and no one was injured. Two other thefts from vehicles on that block on that date were reported. See below.

Chestnut Hill

Feb 22. Theft from vehicle on the unit block of Woodale Ave. A man told police he left his car unlocked overnight and found that someone had taken two Dunkin Donuts gift cards from the car worth a total of $20.

Feb 22. Theft from vehicle on the unit block of Woodale Ave. A man was alerted to someone in his driveway by his barking dog. He saw someone enter his vehicle on his Ring camera and leave with approximately $5 in loose change.

Feb 22 Theft from vehicle on the unit block of W. Moreland St. A man told police that he parked at the location while receiving dialysis treatment. When he returned to his car, he realized his wallet containing ID, Social Security card and $300 in cash was missing.

Feb. 23 Retail theft on the 8600 block of Germantown Avenue. A store owner said someone took a Nike hooded sweatshirt worth $65 from his display window. There is no video surveillance.

Feb. 25 Theft from vehicle on the 300 block of W. Northwestern Ave. A woman told police that someone broke her front passenger-side window between 4 and 5:30 p.m. and took a pocketbook with ID, car keys and $200 in cash.

Feb. 28 Retail theft on the 8200 block of Germantown Ave. A store employee said she witnessed a man take $250 of merchandise out of the store, load it into a black Mercedes and drive off.

Mt. Airy

Feb. 26 Stolen vehicle on the 6600 block of Germantown Ave. A woman left a 2012 Buick Regal running with the keys still inside. When she returned to the car, it was gone.

Feb 27 Theft from vehicle on the 200 block of E. Durham St. A woman told police she parked her car at the location overnight. When she went to her car in the morning, she found her rear passenger-side window smashed and her car stereo removed. The stereo is worth approximately $200.
