Crime Report: Stolen cars and retail thefts

Because of last week’s snowstorm, we were unable to get the Part One reports from the police department on which we base our weekly crime report. The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the two-week period between Jan 25 – Feb. 8

Chestnut Hill

Jan. 28 Attempted theft, 8600 block of Germantown Ave. An owner of McNally’s caught two people trying to steal a propane tank from a heater in the restaurant’s outdoor dining space. The pair fled when confronted. The heater was not damaged.

Jan. 31 Theft. A man told police a package was reportedly delivered to his home on Dec. 19 but he never received it. He believes it was stolen.

Feb. 4 Aggravated Assault, 7800 block of Stenton Ave. A woman told police that while trying to calm her daughter’s boyfriend down, the boyfriend bit her on the right hand and the left shoulder.

Feb 5 Theft from vehicle on 100 block of W. Northwestern Ave. A woman parked her car in the location and when she returned, found her rear driver’s side window smashed and her purse containing ID and credit cards taken. All items valued at $70.

Mt. Airy

Jan 25 Theft from vehicle on the 1000 block of W. Upsal St. A man told police someone removed the license plate from his vehicle.

Jan 25 Retail theft on the 7200 block of Germantown Ave. A man was seen taking $40 worth of alcohol from the state store.

Jan. 26 Stolen vehicle on the 500 block of E. Allens Lane. A man told police that he gave his vehicle, a black 2015 BMW 435i, to a man through the car share app Turo. The man took his car and did not return it. The car was last racked in Newark, Delaware.

Jan 26 Stolen vehicle on the 400 block of W. Wellesley Rd. A man told police he parked his black, 2016 Toyota Camry in front of his house. When he left his home the next morning, his car was gone. The keys were not with the car.

Jan. 26 Retail theft from 7000 block of  Germantown Ave. A man was observed at the Acme market placing 15 bottles of Dove deodorant in his jacket and leaving the store without paying.

Jan 27 Retail Theft on 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A manager at the Acme market told police he witnessed a man take 10 bottles of Clorox wipes worth $45.

Jan. 28 Theft from vehicle on the unit block of E. Mt. Airy Ave. A woman discovered that someone had removed the license plate from her car.

Jan 28 Stolen vehicle on the 7100 block of Cresheim Ave. A man told police that he was warming his vehicle, a 2015 Silver Toyota Camry, when someone got in and took the car.

Jan 28 Two retail thefts on 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A man took approximately $100 worth of Tide laundry products. Another man was reported to have taken $100 worth of health and beauty items

Jan 29 Retail Theft on 7000 block of Germantown Ave.  A woman tool Almost $100 worth of over-the-counter sleep medicine from store without paying.

Jan 30 Retail Theft on 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A man left the Acme market with $150 worth of seafood items in a bag and didn’t pay for them.

Jan 30 Theft from vehicle on the 1000 block of W. Upsal St. A man discovered someone had stolen the catalytic converter from his car.

Jan 31 Retail Theft on 7000 block of Germantown Ave. Acme employees reported a woman had stolen a package of diapers worth approximately $7.

Feb. 1 Retail theft at 7000 block of Germantown Ave. A man was apprehended by police after taking $80 of laundry detergent from the Acme market.

Feb 3 Theft from vehicle on the 400 block of W. Ellet St.A man told police he discovered the catalytic converters on both of his vehicles had been taken.

Feb 6 Two thefts from vehicle on the 500 block of Wellesley Rd. Two residents reported their catalytic converters stolen from their vehicles.

Feb 7 Burglary on the 7000 block of Germantown Business. A property that is home to nine businesses had each business's front door forced open. One of the businesses reported a laptop worth $2,100 had been taken.
