Philadelphia Dance Theatre will perform a double-bill featuring "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and the world premiere of "Sinatra Songbook" at Montgomery County Community College's Montco Cultural Center on April 5-6.
The performances will be in the theater at the Science Center building, 1313 Morris Road, with shows scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m.
The production features 80 professional and pre-professional dancers in a family-friendly program presented through a partnership between the Montco Cultural Center and Philadelphia Dance Theatre.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" brings Shakespeare's comedy to life through choreography by Artistic Director Joy Delaney-Capponi set to Felix Mendelssohn's score. The music includes "Song with Chorus," a lullaby for fairy queen Titania, a "Scherzo" for the fairies, and the recognizable "Wedding March" often heard at modern ceremonies.
Following intermission, "Sinatra Songbook," also choreographed by Delaney-Capponi, will make its world premiere. This original ballet is set to Frank Sinatra classics and follows the journey of a once-in-a-lifetime love.
The production features lighting design by Dave Todaro and costumes by Joan Fox, with guest artists Charles Michael Patterson and Floyd McLean.
The performances will be in the college's newly redesigned 563-seat theater, which was outfitted by the Walters-Storyk Design Group with advanced acoustic, audio, rigging, lighting and video systems.
Tickets start at $12 and can be purchased at mc3.edu/tickets or by emailing BoxOffice@mc3.edu.
