Donald Van Arsdale, pharmaceutical executive

Donald Van Arsdale, formerly of Flourtown, a retired pharmaceutical executive, died Sept. 20 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He had been living in North Palm Beach, Fla., for the past three years.

Mr. Van Arsdale was vice president for human resources for Smith, Kline and French when he retired from the firm. In retirement, he drove a school bus for Springfield Township, which he enjoyed and for which he was beloved by his student riders.

He was a graduate of Germantown Academy and Lafayette College with a degree in business administration. During his college career, he was named to Who's Who of Students in American Universities and Colleges, was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and served as president of the Interfraternity Council.

After graduation, he pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales with Smith, Kline and French’s Wholesale Division.

During the Korean War. he served in the Coast Guard as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Ramsden.

Mr. Van Arsdale is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kriszta; daughters Constance Johnson, of Fox Island, Wash., Alicia Van Arsdale of Stuart, Fla., and Ashley Koecheler, of Lake Park, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of Mr. Van Arsdale’s life will take place at the family's home in Flourtown in early November. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Springfield Township Post No. 7919, 7999 Elm St., Wyndmoor, PA 19038. – WF
