Letter: Kinsey could do more on climate

As a citizen of Philadelphia and a Philadelphia public school student, I value our state representatives and what they do to affect our daily lives. What I am writing to you about today is the impact that my state representative, Stephen Kinsey from district 201, has made and what he can do better.

I believe Kinsey adheres to the beliefs of nearly all the residents of Germantown, myself included, very well. His work fighting against violence in Philly, of which there has been a recent uptick, is important. I believe what Kinsey has done in regard to advocating for police reform, including the series of joint hearings to build on recent reform laws, and making life insurance more accessible deserves to be in the light more than it is at the moment.

However, I think Kinsey hasn’t done much work against the destruction that is global warming, and through my research I could only find one bill he voted on regarding climate change. I also have not seen any work done to reduce the poverty that Philadelphia has been struggling with for decades. I am aware most politicians cannot get all of their best ideas forced through the congressional process, but I hope his legislative efforts will lead to changes in the future.

Sincerely,
William Taylor
