When winter comes around each year – as it inevitably does – the inescapable potholes emerge from their long summer’s nap and bedevil those of us trying to maneuver through the area streets in our vehicles.  The area where this phenomenon occurs certainly includes Chestnut Hill as it does the surrounding townships.

I have read all of the articles on why potholes occur and why their reemergence is inevitable.  But, the question that I have banging around in my head is: Why can’t we, in this day and age, develop some sort of technique that would fill in the insidious holes and keep them filled?

There are some potholes that I’ve encountered regularly on Bethlehem Pike at the big intersection of Paper Mill Road and Stenton Avenue that I believe are going to disable my car sometime soon if I don’t steer in just the right manner through the maze.  And that’s just one example.  They’re all over! They’re on the Expressway, the Blue Route, the Turnpike. They’re all around us.  And they’re closing in.

But, seriously, can’t somebody in the Streets Department or somewhere else in City Hall – or in our own Springfield Township administration office – come up with a solution to make our lives a heck of a lot more enjoyable while we’re out on the roads in our vehicles?  Please!
