Letter: Responding to a reader concerned about potholes

Posted

Stephen, you stated in your letter that nobody seems to be getting the message about the pothole problem.

I got it!

When I called 311 quite some time ago to ask why potholes aren’t filled, I was told that the Streets Department responds only to complaints submitted by residents. They are not proactive. You have to call 311 or submit a request online.

I have found that when I submit a request online, with the exact location, the problem is resolved within two weeks. I have written to the city about potholes, litter clean-up and graffiti.

If you google 311 Philly/Submit a Request, you will log in, fill out the form and state the problem. In time, it will be taken care of.

They also follow up with a “How Did We Do?” e-mail.
