This letter is to warn residents that last week, including last Friday 3 squirrels made it to the first block of E. Highland Ave before suffering painful deaths that looked like poisoning. We have no way of knowing where the substance is that killed them but if 3 came this way others may have scattered and died in nearby gardens where your dog or cat could get poisoned from the remains. While asking around we were told that some granular substance was recently scattered around the courtyard area by the tobacco and candy shops, the smell of naphtha is still evident, this substance was washed down when people had trouble with headaches. If still active, any new puddles could be a problem if it was indeed poisonous. Or a poison could have been put out by a resident in the area.
Please take care walking your dogs, 2 different people who dog walk this area have contacted me on Nextdoor to say their dogs were suddenly sick in the last couple of weeks, and check under your shrubbery for remains of any other unfortunate squirrels.
Sincerely,
Liese Sadler
