At Saylors Grove, there was little trash to collect. Recent efforts of by the Friends of Saylors Grove, combined with grass seeding by the Parks Department keeping visitors away from parts of the grounds, gave about thirty volunteers more time to hear about the grove’s birds. Erica Johnson had come Saturday to clean up the park, and discovered she was pulling up mugwort, an invasive weed she decided to keep for an herbal mix at her Collective Artistry shop.
Nearly 100 parks throughout the city had events this week, with volunteers cleaning up trash, removing invasive plants, or learning about gardening and maintenance.
