Mt. Airy Day Cancelled

Mt. Airy Day, the annual festival celebrating the Northwest Philadelphia neighborhood, has been cancelled because of weather forecasts predicting rain and thunderstorms this weekend.

The decision by organizers follows a postponement of the festival last month also because of inclement weather on the weekend of May 7 when Mt. Airy Day was originally scheduled.

Organizers called the decision “difficult” in an announcement on the event website. “We will be applying this year’s efforts to 2023.”

This year’s event was to be a celebration of Mt. Airy Day’s 50th anniversary which had been postponed for two years because of COVID.

“We’ll celebrate the 50th next year,”  East Mt. Airy Neighbors executive director Natalia Serejko  said in an email to the Local. In the meantime, organizers asked on the website that residents carry on the spirit of Mt. Airy Day by “connecting with your neighbors, supporting local businesses, or volunteering for next year’s event.”
