Philly Zero-waste Delivery Startup Taking on Amazon Expands into Northwest Philly

The Rounds, a zero-waste refill and delivery service for the stuff you use every day, just expanded into Northwest Philadelphia.

The Rounds is building the future of sustainable city living by delivering your everyday essentials, like household, personal care and pantry products, in refillable containers with no cardboard or plastic packaging waste. The startup was founded by two Wharton MBA students who are working toward building a closed-loop supply chain that will bring sustainability and convenience to city residents across the country.

Designed as a local, sustainable alternative to Amazon, The Rounds offers a modern take on the old “milkman” model — the 1950’s practice of delivering milk in reusable glass bottles and retrieving the empty containers the next week before delivering you fresh milk. ‘Rounders’ deliver your refill bundle to your door using their fleet of e-bikes. At that time, they also pick up any empty containers from your previous delivery so nothing goes to waste.

Members in Northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods have the same “refill day” each week, and can select a cadence for every product they choose (weekly, biweekly, monthly, or bimonthly). Choose from 100+ staple products like coffee, soymilk, local breads, and various foods in bulk like nuts, pasta, rice, oats and olive oil. Other offerings include dishwasher pods, glass cleaner, disinfecting wipes, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, and various bath and hand soaps. Additionally, you’ll find some neighborhood favorites like Philly Muffins from Merzbacher’s of Germantown, fresh loaves of bread from Lost Bread Co., and Bean2Bean Coffee Co.
