State Rep. Darisha Parker (D., Phila.) recently announced that Happy Hollow Recreation Center will receive a $1 million grant for facility upgrades.

The funding will help transform the Wayne Avenue center into a digital access hub for residents without broadband internet and a heating and cooling center for those in need.

Parker said the investment will "help foster community connections and give our youth hope." She also noted the center's importance in combating gun violence.

Happy Hollow is Philadelphia's oldest recreation center and has produced several NBA players including Jerome Allen, who formerly coached at the University of Pennsylvania and is now an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons.

The grant comes from the Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
