A suspect is in custody, charged with kidnapping in relation to the missing 23-year-old woman Kada Scott, who was last seen in Chestnut Hill on Oct. 4.

Police and the district attorney's office held a press conference on Wednesday, saying that the suspect, Keon D. King, 21, was in communication with Scott prior to her disappearance. They said the search for Scott, of East Mt. Airy,  is still ongoing, and that the case had been assigned to the homicide unit because of their better resources. They said it should not be assumed that Scott is dead.

At the press conference, police said they are searching for a gold 1999 Toyota Camry connected to the case, with the license plate MSX-0797.

Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said King was arrested earlier this year for what was described as a domestic case in which he allegedly kidnapped and strangled the victim, but the charges were withdrawn after the witness failed to appear on two separate court dates. Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said those charges were now being refiled.

Scott’s family reported her missing on Oct. 5, after she was last seen by coworkers on Oct. 4 before leaving work at The Terrace at Chestnut Hill on East Abington Avenue. Scott’s car was left in the parking lot.

On Monday, Scott’s father, Kevin Scott, told the Local, “We’re nine days in, so each day becomes more stressful … So at this point, our focus is trying to get the information out about the verified GoFundMe, the reward fund we have set up in hopes of increasing the support, the awareness of what’s going on.”

The fundraiser can be found at GoFundMe.com/find-kada with all funds to be used “exclusively to support a verified reward for credible information that leads directly to Kada’s safe recovery.”

Police are urging anyone with information to call 215-686-3334/3335 or submit anonymous tips at 215-686-8477.
