Last week’s editorial page contained a very unfortunate inaccuracy which must now be corrected for the record.
We received a letter to the editor about ongoing complaints of trash at the Water Tower Recreation Center. The letter, which came to us signed by five neighbors, was too long for print, and needed to be edited for length and clarity. As is our custom and our policy, we made edits and sent them back to the letter writer for review.
Unfortunately, the letter contained an important error that we were not able to catch. Apparently, the sender had mistakenly included her neighbors as signatories on the letter. While she did have an opportunity to review the edited letter for print, she also did not see her mistake at that time.
It is not uncommon for The Local to receive letters from multiple signatories, a fact which I believe reflects the strong community spirit and active engagement of the many different kinds of people who live here. That is a wonderful thing, and something The Local intends to continue supporting.
In order to prevent such a thing from happening in the future, the Local is instituting a new policy - requiring that any letter signed by multiple people must be sent by each individual signer, from their own email address.
