Dr. Aisa G. Lopez, a beloved physician and longtime member of the Chestnut Hill community, died peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the age of 95.
For 54 years, Dr. Lopez called Chestnut Hill home, building deep roots in the neighborhood she cherished. She was a devoted member of Our Mother of Consolation Church. Her faith began in childhood as a member of the Legion of Mary, and her devotion to Mary continued throughout her faith-filled life.
Dr. Lopez dedicated more than four decades to caring for patients at rehabilitation facilities throughout Northwest Philadelphia. She joined the medical staff of Roxborough Memorial Hospital in 1986, beginning nearly 40 years of service to the hospital and the surrounding community, and was known there for her compassionate and dedicated work within its Rehabilitation Unit. For those who had the privilege of working alongside her, medicine was more than a profession. It was a calling. Truly dedicated to her work, she cared for patients until the very end.
In a tribute to its staff, Roxborough Memorial Hospital wrote that there are physicians who practice medicine, and then there are physicians whose lives become woven into the history of a hospital, and that Dr. Lopez was one of those physicians. Generations of patients and colleagues benefited from her knowledge, kindness and commitment.
Dr. Lopez was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Rafael H. Lopez, also a physician, who maintained a private practice in nearby Wyndmoor until his passing in 2000 and who likewise served the Chestnut Hill community. Together, they dedicated their lives to caring for the community that surrounded them.
Her family was the priority in her life. She is survived by her children, Bernard (Tobiola), Cynthia (James), and Edward; her grandchildren, Gregory (Sarah), Timothy (Victoria), David, and Ryan; and her sister, Laura (Romeo). She will be remembered by her family as a woman of unwavering dedication, warmth and quiet strength.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Mother of Consolation Church on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
