“The American Cancer Society’s designation of these facilities as ‘Hope Lodges’ is exactly right,” Haywood said in a news release. “Every day, these spaces offer hope to our neighbors — and to the families who stand beside them — as they battle cancer. These lodges provide more than just a place to stay; they create an environment for reflection, healing, and dignified living.”
He added, “I’m proud to help secure state funding for the American Cancer Society to ensure our local Hope Lodges are more accessible and supportive for all who need them. From ADA-compliant improvements to critical operational support, this investment will make these centers more inclusive and accommodating. When we uplift the dignity of our neighbors, we strengthen the dignity of our entire community.”
In a press release, the Cancer Society said the project makes it easier for patients and caregivers to access the facility. The group also recognized U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) for helping to secure additional funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute.
