An Olympic gold medalist and an MSNBC star discuss their books

Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books in Germantown continues its program of celebrity interviews and book signings with appearances this week by Olympic track star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and MSNBC host and commentator Joy-Ann Reid.

McLaughlin-Levrone, a two-time gold medalist, will discuss her latest book, “Far Beyond the Gold,” in a conversation with journalist Mister Mann Frisby, focusing on overcoming personal struggles. The event is at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Greene Street Friends in Germantown.

Reid will discuss her new book “Medgar & Myrlie,” with Uncle Bobbie’s owner Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, at 7 p.m., Wed., Feb. 7, at First United Methodist Church of Germantown. The book traces the lives of civil rights activists Medgar and Myrlie Evers and examines the impact of Medgar Evers’ assassination which rocked the movement.
