A Feasterville man has been arrested and charged with arson for a fire he is alleged to have started at the SEPTA Chestnut Hill East regional rail train station located on Bethlehem Pike on Sunday evening, May 26.
Gary Manai, 66, faces charges of arson, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and overnight accommodations, according to SEPTA police.
Police and fire officials responded to reports of a fire at the station at approximately 10:05 p.m. Security camera footage showed Manai loitering in the station building at 8:42 p.m. before entering the bathroom, where the fire was later seen coming from.
Engine 37 and Fire Marshall John Townsend arrived at the scene at 10:10 p.m. to extinguish the fire, which was later deemed an arson. Manai was transported to the police station for processing, along with his personal belongings and the lighter he is alleged to have used.
The estimated value of damages is $100,000.
A Fire Department spokesman confirmed that the fire marshal's office ruled the fire as incendiary, meaning it was intentionally set.
