MacArthur Fellow and acclaimed author Kiese Laymon will appear in conversation with educator and activist Marc Lamont Hill to discuss Laymon’s new picture book, "City Summer, Country Summer" April 1 at First United Methodist Church of Germantown.
The event at 7 p.m., part of a series of author talks hosted by Hill’s Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books in Germantown, will explore themes of family connections and the transformative experience of spending summers in the South to visit family.
Laymon, a professor of English and creative writing at Rice University, is known for his memoir "Heavy" and his essay collection "How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America." His latest work follows three Black boys who form a deep bond during a summer in Mississippi.
General admission is $8.99, and $21.99 tickets include a signed copy of the book. Doors open at 6 p.m. The church is at 6001 Germantown Avenue.
