The April 26 8th council district community forum where incumbent Cindy Bass faces the first significant challenger for her seat in over a decade in Seth Anderson-Oberman promises to be a true Northwest community event. Joining the Chestnut Hill Local, West Mt. Airy Neighbors, and East Mt. Airy Neighbors as partner organizations are Pleasant Advisory Council, Chestnut Hill Community Association, Germantown United CDC, and Face to Face Germantown.

This forum, along with sister events at Grace Baptist Church, is part of a host of events supported by the Lenfest Institute’s Every Voice, Every Vote citywide initiative. At the core of the project is a coalition of more than 76 media and community partners that serve every neighborhood in Philadelphia through multilingual, nonpartisan, issues-oriented journalism, community listening activities, public voter engagement events, candidate forums, and voter guide development, all focused on bringing together community groups and media organizations to elevate Philadelphia’s diverse voices, inform voters, and promote civic action.

The Every Voice, Every Vote Survey of Philadelphia Voters conducted by market research firm SSRS and the Pew Charitable Trusts analyzed the responses of 1,247 Philadelphia residents regarding their top priorities for Philadelphia’s mayor and elected officials. Respondents were most concerned with: crime, public schools/education, the economy and jobs, affordable housing, homelessness, opioid use, and city services/infrastructure. Do you feel that these city-wide priorities are consistent with the needs of Northwest Philadelphia?

While Dave Davies and Yvette Ousley will moderate the evening, we are seeking direct community input. What do you want to ask the candidates? What matters most to you?

If you have a question to pose or issue to raise, please email WMAN executive director Jo Winter, westmtairyneighbors@gmail.com before April 22. Submitted questions will be shared with moderators in advance of the event in order to maximize community input in shaping thecontent of the conversation.

Please join us on April 26 from 7-8:30 at the Germantown Jewish Center, 400 W. Ellet Street.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The forum for council members at-large will be April 17 at Grace Baptist Church from 7-8:30 p.m. and the mayoral forum events details will be forthcoming.

Jo Winter is executive director of West Mt. Airy Neighbors.
