A SEPTA bus operator was attacked by an unidentified man on Bethlehem Pike outside Primo Hoagies at about 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, who slammed him up against the glass window.

The impact shattered the deli’s window and injured the bus driver, who was sent to the hospital with a back injury and a sore head.

“I know there's an altercation between two people, it became physical, and then they got pushed through the window,” Nick Fischer, owner of the Chestnut Hill Primo Hoagies, told The Local on Monday. “My window is broken and I gotta pay for that, but other than that, I don't really know much.”

SEPTA spokesman John Golden said the assailant was not a passenger on the Route 25 bus, but was in a car parked on Bethlehem Pike.

“The bus operator stated that while walking near his vehicle, a male stopped his car and engaged in a verbal argument,” Golden said. “The male then got out of his car and brandished a firearm.”

According to the police report, the driver told officers that he became involved in a verbal argument with the offender, which escalated into a physical altercation. The offender then displayed a firearm and stated, “I don’t need this,” before removing the weapon from his waistband and placing it inside his gold-colored vehicle. The offender then punched the driver in the head, and slammed him multiple times into the window of Primo Hoagies, shattering the glass.

According to the report, the offender fled the scene. The investigation remains under investigation.
