Carol Susan Coffey Harvey, born in Adrian, Michigan on November 28, 1944, died March 22, 2024 in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. Daughter of the late Coleman Coffey and Charlotte Audrey Ballmer Coffey, Susan is survived by her two children Taylor Campbell Harvey (Ed Chase) and Cynthia Harvey-Benzing (Brendan Benzing) and her grandson, William Taylor Benzing.
Susan traveled the country and around the world with her two young children and former husband, Ret. LTC. Taylor Harvey, US Army. She lived and worked for many years in Reston, VA and during her retirement lived in Washington DC working for The Human Rights Campaign, an organization whose mission was aligned with her personal principles of equality and compassion for everyone. She spent the latter years of her life in Seattle, WA and Philadelphia, PA, always close to her family.
Susan was a caring friend, loving mother and doting grandmother, offering kind words, warm hugs, home-cooked meals and a room in her home to anyone in need. She was unwavering in her support and love for her family. Susan will always be remembered for her selfless spirit and generous nature, her beautiful and welcoming homes, her remarkable strength and resilience, not to mention countless loved and well-shared recipes -- taco salad, fried chicken, baked beans, meatloaf and goulash - to name a few.
Susan will be especially missed this holiday season as it was always her most joyous time together with her family, other than a beach week in Delaware, North Carolina or the Jersey Shore.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Spring in Washington, DC.
