Chestnut Hill Garden District Fund Flowers the Avenue

Posted

Twenty one years ago, Dottie Sheffield and a group of other aesthetically minded Chestnut Hillers, founded the nonprofit CHGDF with one goal: to enhance the appearance of our beloved Avenue. Dottie, leading many dedicated volunteers, has brought great improvement to our community from the recent restoration of Peace Park and a new Welcome sign and flower bed at Cliff Park. Lighting was added for both the cliff and sign while bulbs were planted throughout. But the most notable activity is surely the annual planting of 90 whiskey barrels ,42 hanging baskets and dozens of window boxes on a one mile stretch of Germantown Ave. There’s too many of CHGDF’s success stories to list, but it’s important to note here that our lives and community have been enhanced because one Dottie Sheffield rolled up her sleeves, hailed her friends and got to work. Right now, the nonprofit CHGDF is in the midst of its annual appeal.

Please support the beautification of our community; if you did not receive an appeal, donations are accepted via Kate O’Neill at the CHBA, 215-247-6696.
