Chestnut Hill hit by pickpockets

Posted

Pickpockets struck Chestnut Hill three times last week.

“These all happened within the past few days and it doesn’t seem as though they were all committed by the same person,” said Kate O’Neill, director of operations for the Chestnut Hill Business Association.

Police did apprehend a single shoplifter who was caught shoplifting $420 at the CVS on Germantown Ave on Friday. She is described as a Black woman with close-cropped hair who was wearing a knitted hat with fake purple braids. She was neatly dressed and did not appear to be an unhoused person.

Also on Friday, Night Kitchen owner Amy Edelman reported that two women entered the bakery on Friday night and lifted two credit cards from customers. She described the two women as being under 30 years old and wearing large black clothing that covered their heads.

They didn’t buy anything, Edelman said, but “hovered around” the customers while they were dining.

On Sunday, Weavers Way caught an image of a single woman they reported as having stolen a shopper's credit card on their security cameras. The woman, who was Black and appeared to be in her late 20s, had her hair in a ponytail and was carrying several shopping bags. She was wearing a baseball cap, black Ugg boots and a long down puffer coat.
