The Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia hosted a prayer vigil at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Center City on March 18 as part of the New Sanctuary Movement’s 40 weeks of Interfaith Prayer Vigils held every Wednesday at noon. They were joined by state Rep. Tarik Khan (center) as well as many congregations of women religious, parish communities and others. “The Sisters of Saint Joseph recognize that the plight of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers is one of the defining moral challenges of our age,” the organization said in a news release, adding that they would “pray for those affected by ICE and those who are working for ICE.” The Sisters’ sponsored works include Chestnut Hill College, Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy and Saint Joseph Villa.
