Chestnut Hill West to return with limited service

Posted

The Chestnut Hill West regional rail line will return March 7. There will be restricted service from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule is still under development, but train service is expected to be less than hourly.

As first reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer on Friday, SEPTA general manager Leslie S. Richards announced the return at the agency’s monthly board meeting on Thursday, January 28.

Service on the line had already been interrupted by repair projects by both SEPTA and Amtrak, and then was suspended completely on April 9, 2020, when the pandemic reduced ridership across all public transit. In general, SEPTA ridership has been down by 85% since last March. There was no announcement on the Cynwyd Line which has remained also suspended since last spring.

On January 20, SEPTA also announced six trains will be temporarily cancelled on the Chestnut Hill East Line to allow crews to continue to perform overhead wire catenary replacement work.
