Dr. Thomas Mernar, program director of Gwynedd Mercy's Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy Programs, said the partnership offers West Chester graduates a free application process and a smoother path to the occupational therapy program.
The collaboration formalizes an existing relationship between the universities. Chris Wallace, a 2018 West Chester graduate who completed Gwynedd Mercy's MSOT program, cited the school's smaller cohorts and passionate professors as key factors in his decision to enroll.
West Chester students from any major can apply to the MSOT program if they meet admission requirements. Unlike external applicants, they can bypass the Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service, saving the $164 application fee.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 11% growth in occupational therapy jobs from 2023 to 2033. In 2023, the median annual wage for occupational therapists was $96,370.
Gwynedd Mercy University's MSOT program is accredited and takes two years to complete.
