The following report is for offenses reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the week of April 14 to April 21. 

Chestnut Hill

April 16. Theft.  A man got off the SEPTA bus at the intersection of East Mermaid Lane and Germantown Avenue and was walking up Mermaid Lane when he noticed he had dropped a bag of guitar tools and a camera. When he turned back to retrieve the items, an offender on a skateboard scooped them up and fled on Winston Road.

April 17. Theft. Security officer at Acme in the 7700 block of Crittenden Street told police that a man took seafood items and two bottles of wine without paying for them and fled in a 2022 black Mercedes Benz.

April 17. Offender took hair dryers and dove products valued at $300 without paying for them at the CVS in the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue.  

April 17. Theft. Complainant sitting on a bench next to a work site in the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue left his bag near the bench and when he returned the bag with his MacBook, passport and other identification was gone.

April 18. Theft. An employee at Kitchen Kapers in the 8500 block of Germantown venue saw offender take door mats without paying for them.

April 18. Vandalism and theft from vehicle. Complainant parked her vehicle at the intersection of East Northwestern and Germantown Avenues and told police her rear passenger window was broken and purse with wallet, driver’s license and other items were taken.  

April 18. Theft. Store manager in the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue saw man take a blow dryer and curling iron without paying for them.

April 19. Theft. A woman who had been admitted to Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital in the 8800 block of Germantown Avenue woke up in time to see an unknown man leaving her room and the next day she noticed her bank cards and identification were missing and she was notified that the cards had been used at another location.

April 19. Theft. A woman who had parked her vehicle in the 400 block of East Gravers Lane told police her vehicle was ransacked and her glove compartment opened, but nothing but $2.50 was missing.

April 20. Vandalism and Theft from motor vehicle. A woman parked her car at Devil’s Pool in the unit block of Valley Green Road and returned to find her window smashed and a Dooney & Bourke handbag, along with a purple wallet, were missing.

April 21. Theft. Store manager told police a habitual offender returned to the store in the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue and left without paying for batteries and chargers, valued at about $100.

April 21. Theft. Witness told police that an offender came into a store in the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue and took Aleve medication.

April 21. Theft. Complainant who parked her vehicle at the intersection of Valley Green Road and Wolcott Drive told police her vehicle’s front passenger window was broken and a laptop and other items were stolen.

Mt. Airy

April 14. Theft. A woman told police that her purse containing her phone, keys and debit cards while she was shopping at Acme in the 7000 block of Germantown Avenue. The offender opened her cash app and transferred money.

 April 14. Theft. A complainant told police that a package delivered to the 6400 block of Boyer Street was stolen by a man in a blue vehicle.

 April 15. Aggravated Assault. Bleeding complainant in the 200 block of East Cliveden Street told police he had been shot. Man had gunshot wounds to the abdomen and right arm.

April 15. Theft. Security officer at Wawa in the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue told police a man took candy and other items from the store without paying for them.

April 15. A man in the 200 block of West Hortter Street said that while his car was parked on the block someone got in and damaged his steering column.

April 16. Intimidation/Threats. A woman told police an offender came to her residence in the 200 block of East Mt. Airy Avenue after the two had an argument on a cell phone and the offender pointed a firearm at her.

April 16. Aggravated Assault. A complainant in the 6600 block of Ross Street was discovered by police and suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and knee.

April 16. Burglary. Complainant, the landlord of a building in the 300 block of Vernon Road, told police that the offender was served with eviction paperwork and returned to the location.

April 16. Theft. A security officer at the Wawa in the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue witnessed an offender taking 22 cans of Red Bull and leaving the store without paying.

April 16. Theft. Woman in the 6400 block of Ardleigh Street told police she believed a home health aide stole her laptop, jewelry and black pants, valued at $2,590.

April 17 Theft. Offender took wine from the Acme in the 7000 block of Germantown Avenue and then fled.

April 18. Offender took the lock off a garage in the 6600 block of Germantown Avenue and took bolt cutters and a skateboard valued at $175.

 April 19. Theft. Eight young people left without paying for Red Bull, Gatorade, chips and Slim Jims.

April 19. Burglary. Complainant returned to their home in the 300 block of Pelham Road and found a door had been forced open, but nothing was taken. A laptop that didn’t belong to anyone in the home was found in the kitchen.

April 19. Aggravated Assault. A landlord in the 100 block of East Coulter Street called police after an offender who rents a room from her lost his job and when she tried to talk to him about it, the offender grabbed a knife and threatened to kill the landlord, who was able to shut a door and lock out the offender. Police arrived and the offender picked up a pair of hedge trimmers. He was eventually taken into custody.

April 19. Theft. A catalytic converter was taken from a car parked in the unit block of East Hortter Street.

April 19. Aggravated Assault. A complainant in the unit block of East Cliveden Street reported that an offender, who had smoked marijuana and was acting paranoid, argued with the complainant and another man about a dog, and then threatened them with a hammer. The offender left and returned, implying that he had a gun.  Officers discharged their firearms at the offender as he came back outside. The offender was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center and “cleared by Dr. Harris.”

April 21. Theft. Two females took $200 worth of Red Bull and candy without paying for them at the Wawa in the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue
